Spring has certainly reached the Therapy centre with many new initiatives and challenges.
Oxygen
The chamber remains very busy, and we have been offering earlier and later time slots to meet the demand, particularly from those in work. We continue to remind all our users to let us know as soon as possible if they cannot make a booking slot. This allows us to offer the time to another person.
Easter oxygen offer valid until 17th April 2025 – £180 for 15 sessions.
Physiotherapy
We bid a sad farewell to James and Maddy our student physios who have returned to their studies at Nottingham University, but we will be welcoming new student physios after Easter.
The new group arrangements are operating successfully. We are asking participants to sign up each week to guarantee their preferred time slot.
Group Physiotherapy sessions:
Tuesday | 12:00 | Upper body weights and resistance bands |
Wednesday | 13:00 | Lower limb carousel |
Thursday | 11:30 | Upper body weights and resistance bands |
Thursday | 12:30 | Upper body weights and resistance bands |
Our BalanceMaster sadly failed in its March electrical safety test and has been removed. However, we now have 2 sparkling new exercise bikes, so no excuse for missing an exercise slot!
The Litegait offer remains in place – £180 for 15 sessions. These sessions must be prebooked with the physiotherapy team.
40th Anniversary
Our celebratory party has now been arranged for Saturday 16th August 2025. An evening of entertainment is planned, including a casino, live music, disco and buffet meal and bar. More details will follow and Jo is already signing people up to guarantee their places. An event definitely not to be missed.
March saw 25 centre members take on our 40km in 40 days challenge. Each person chose the exercise equipment which challenged them – Cycle, Litegait, Treadmill, Invictus trainer, Punchbag, Cross-Trainer. Not only did they achieve their targets, but they gained fitness and strength too. Some exceeded their targets and others are now planning to extend their challenge for the rest of the year. Setting new goals to improve their fitness and motivation. A full report with pictures is available on the website.
March ended with a fabulous Afternoon Tea organised by Liz, Hazel and Angela. 40 members enjoyed a sumptuous selection of goodies, all hand made by various centre members. The event raised a magnificent £504 for the Centre. A full report with pictures is available on the website.
Jo has been busy organising a range of other celebratory events.
Including:
May | Zipwire Challenge in Bethesda (Saturday 10th May) |
June | Canalboat Trip from Loughborough to Nanpantan (Sunday 22nd June 10-00 to 15-00) |
July | Afternoon Tea and Cakes (Saturday 5th July) |
August | Skydive at Langar Airfield, Nottingham (Sunday 10th August) |
September | International Food event (Friday 12th September) |
October | Staff race in the Leicester 10k (Sunday 26th October) |
Abseiling and Picnic in the Park events are also planned, with dates to be confirmed.
Roger and Brian will be hoping to survive a back waxing challenge, if we are able to raise £1000 in sponsorship, to convince them it would be a great experience for them!
We are hoping to keep participation costs low on all these events to enable as many centre members as possible to participate. We are looking for businesses and individuals who might be willing to sponsor some of the events. If you can help, or know someone who can, please contact Jo at the centre 0116 255 7104 or mstherapylc@icloud.com for more information.
Its fair to say that our 40th birthday celebrations are emphasising the ethos of LMSTC. Our community may have a few health issues, but that is no reason to stop us from living life to the full. It’s what we CAN DO, nothing is impossible!
Leicester Wheels for All has organised a cycle event at Saffron Lane Athletics Track on Sunday 13 April 2025. Health and weather permitting 26 centre members and supporters will be trying a range of accessible cycles and aiming to ride a 40km relay around the Athletics track.
Trustees Ann and Peter had the pleasure of meeting the Mental Health Nurse Team at Leicester General Hospital to talk about the Therapy Centre and its work. Knowledge about the work of the Centre within the NHS is patchy, and our contribution was much appreciated by the NHS staff.
Thank you
We have been delighted to receive two unexpected donations of funds to help with the running of the Therapy Centre.
Beena Amliwala from Designer Wealth Management nominated the LMSTC for a discretionary award from the Openwork Foundation. Their £500 donation will help to improve the physiotherapy equipment available to our members.
Walker’s Leicester charity club have chosen the LMSTC as a nominated charity for 2025. Their support for local charities is much appreciated, and we are honoured to be nominated, and to receive a wonderful cheque for £5378.57.
As a small local charity support of this magnitude is so important for us. Grateful thanks to all those who have contributed to raising monies and nominating our charity.
